…... The manner in which speakers and leaders in the Church communicate the fundamentals of our faith doesn’t emphasize the significance of integration
in our lives (more on this coming up). So maybe the leaders aren't lying
per se, but they aren't telling the whole truth. Whether they realize it or not, that's a problem.
As a faithful Catholic you’re taught that the key to happiness is found by feeling content with (spiritual) ideas alone. Sure, you might get super inspired at first when you hear a motivational talk - but eventually you lose steam and revert to your old ways.
This age old narrative is the reason you listen to the priest give a homily, only to realize that you can’t remember what the Gospel reading was about - even if you are just walking out of Mass!
It’s as though the spiritual ideas permeate your heart - because they move you at an emotional level. You’re all fired up by inspiration and feel a surge of dopamine with every word uttered.
Yet the spiritual ideas don’t make it to your brain. They don't move the needle. Hardly ever.
